Day Seven - Strahan to Stanley

It rained heavily overnight, thought it was going to come through the window, could have been hail. It comes, thumps down and stops just as suddenly - very odd.

Up and on the road again at 8.30 ish, it was supposed to be a 3 1/2 hour trip. We re- evaluated the rating of our Strahan accommodation - it got reduced to about 8/10. Getting tough.

It was a windy road up and down big hills with fantastic views of the mountains and valleys, morning tea at a little mining town called Roseby, it was good coffee but a sad little town.

Arrived in Stanley around 1pm, went to the pub for our check-in. While we were there we had lunch, it was a big meal. Bob had fish'n'chips, Bert had steak sandwich, Joyce a carrot &ginger soup and I had venison sausage. Oh dear... To much lunch.

Up the road by about 1 block and our house was on the next corner.

It is lovely renovated cottage with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, we will be very comfortable here. Off for a walk up 'The Nut', it is a rock at the end of the peninsula and apparently quite famous.

This is a picture of it from downtown.

Bert and I wandered around town and down to the waterfront and fishing port area, back through town. We came back to pickup Bob & Joyce for a coffee but Bob was having a nap so Joyce came up and we had cake and coffee - see below my cake!!!

What can I say!! The coffee was excellent too. Luck we had pumpkin soup for dinner, we had already eaten enough.

As I write this they are all down at the beach for a walk, I have stayed here with the heater on.

Bob, Joyce and Bert went for a went for a walk to the beach after dinner, I was writing this blog in the warmth of the cottage. They came back and said the penguins were due the beach around 8:15 to 8:45pm. Bert and I went down but one appeared.... Try again tomorrow night.
