Day Five - Hobart to Strahan

Firstly, I promised yesterday to let you know about dinner in the hotel - it was fine. Nothing flash but then neither was the price, 3 x steaks all quite nice and Joyce had salmon which she was happy with.

Up this morning to a cooked breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then we packed our bags into the car.

Wagons Ho!!

Bob drove today, I co-piloted and Joyce and Bert were in the back. The scenery changed every hour and the views were anything from high craggy mountains - some with snow, thick forest and bush, to open grass, and then short tussocks grasses and huge natural lakes. So much variety it was very interesting.

The road was very windy, they put up signs every so often telling us there was windy road ahead - oh boy were they right, some of the wildlife signs were amusing too.

Go figure!!! Love em!

Morning coffee at Tarranleah - my name backwards sort of.. Anyway it was the best coffee so far this trip.

Lunch at Queenstown, a very old worldly place - it used to be a huge town supporting Copper Mines but the mines are gone now. Some of the buildings are beautiful.

On through more windy roads and steep ups and downs and we suddenly arrived in Strahan. Our accommodation is a little out of town and on the main road - the rooms are lovely. Bob and Joyce have a garden room which is at street level and we have a loft room which is 2nd floor smaller room. Lovely bathrooms and will be fine for 2 nights.

The town of Strahan is very quaint with old waterfront buildings and new buildings made to look old.
I checked our boat booking for tomorrow and checked out town, and came up to our room. Pizza for dinner - very heavy dinner for us but tasty enough. Into bed as we need to rise early for the boat ride.

This Lake St Clair, a little side track we took into the big national park. A boat arrived with about 10 hikers on it, they looked exhausted - we heard from the boat driver they walked from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair - 6 days or so walking!!
