A great day in Santiago, the sun did not rise till nearly 9am. A healthy breakfast and dressed warm and into town. Wandered the streets, helped some folk that were lost, and settled for a cup of espresso and muffin. Off to the markets to sort out dinner, salmon, vegetables, mussels, bread.
Lunch at the markets was octopus boiled with spicy paprika and had 2 glasses of wine. Met a lovely Japanese chap at the stand up table, had a chat with him over our octopus and wines.
We took our fish and vegetables home to put in the fridge but went out again to the Cathedral Square.
We did the city tour by bus, this is an unusual bus, it was a little child size train and carriages, Bert is calling it a "Wolly Train" because we all look like wolly's sitting in it. The tour was good, showed all around Santiago for 45 minutes and did a lot of the steep hills..
I wanted to see the famous BOTAFUMIERO in the Cathedral here
about batofumiero
It was excellent, very strong smell. We hung around after the service to see the gold and jewels of this wonderfully ornate church.
We must have been meant to see it as it does not happen all the time or even each service but we walked in at the right time.
Off for a cold drink afterwards and found a lovely old worldly coffee salon, could not call it anything else. Had a beer on the outdoor seats, got a few groceries at the Super meerkat, and went back to the lovely place for one more beer inside. (And a bathroom visit - there is almost no public loo's anywhere in Spain so you have to stop at cafés and bars and buy something to use the bathroom).
Home for our dinner - fried chorizo and lime, garlic and onion mussels with wheat bread. Yummy. Not a late night, catching up on sleep still... The neighbours are very noisy till around 10pm.
