Queenstown for the day, what to do first? Breakfast is a good start at the hotel, then we walked down to the Steam Boat ferry and we caught the 10am cruise on the Lake - 40 minutes up to an old homestead and they let passengers off and 40 minutes back. The Captain let me pull the handle to make the steam horn sound!!! It was good fun and very loud.
After that we wandered around a nearby headland at the water level, then up to the botanical gardens on top of the point. Beautiful English gardens full of Rhodedeons of every colour imaginable and the trees were fully loaded with blossoms.
After another good Ferg Pie we went up to the Bird Park and wanted to see Kiwi birds. It was a sad and sorry place as the cages were only small but in one of the closures there was a Kiwi with his back to us - so technically we have seen one.
Back into town for a little shopping and beer. I bought a green stone pendant and the jeweler put on a gold link so I could wear it straight away and they gave me the 15% duty off it too..
Back to the hotel for dinner and drinks.
Queenstown has the most stunning views and the sun was shining, it got quite warm and people were sunbathing in the park. The views are all around and almost unbelievable and could be painted back drops but they aren't.
Stunning, remarkable (the mountains are named remarkable), beautiful and oh so pretty.
Best things today :-
Joyce : the botanical gardens
Bob : the steam boat
Bert : steam boat, cold beer at end of day.
Me : the pretty steam boat with highly polished floors and the views.
