November 13 - Cromwell to Lake Tekapo

A good night sleep was had, we had breakfast of left over Thai Food. The scenery was really different today it kept changing all day. Man made lakes, man made canals, and salmon farms. We left the Otago area and come into Mackenzie Country.

The drive was not far, we stopped at Twizel for morning coffee - at a place just off the road called Poppies - it was excellent. Love the name of the town it is pronounced twy zel...

We saw the oddest sign - "BE DIDYMO AWARE". What on earth is a DIDYMO? I looked it up on Wikipedia and the definition is - Rock Snot - yes you are reading right... Apparently it is in the fishing areas and is not good for fisherman to transfer around on there fishing clothes.

Back into huge snow covered mountain scenery, we had clear views of Mt Cook the highest mountain in New Zealand. There was a little cloud around but not on Mt Cook.

We arrived at Lake Tekapo in time for lunch, checked into Bluewater Peppers Resort, we both have lake facing studio apartments which are lovely. The highest golf course in New Zealand is here so Bob had a round of golf there.

They have an honor system as it is not attended by anyone, play and pay at the local hotel - how trusting is that.

Dinner at the hotel and an early night. These one night stops are tiring, we have 2 nights at Akaroa.

Best thing today:

Bob : view up Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook at the end.

Joyce : Poppies Cafe at Twizel.

Me : nice hotel room with a view.

Bert : photos from Mt John Lookout

Joyce found out there a no ATM Cash Machine in Tekapo and this was a problem but not insurmountable.
