Day Four - Hobart and Surrounds

Rose late, it is Sunday after all. Headed off to Richmond about 35km away and 20 minutes via the wine area of Hobart and a lot of green countryside. It is a lovely quaint old town of tourist shops and cafes. We went directly to the Richmond Bridge built by convicts in 1823 - 1825, the nearby sign says it is haunted by a convict that died there and they threw his bones in the river....

After wandering around taking photographs here we went for coffee in town, it was very ordinary coffee but the owner was a calligrapher who came and wrote all our names in beautiful writing, that was very nice of him.

Back down the highway and up to Mount Wellington, nothing seems far here. Very windy road and drove up into the clouds - the views were magnificent - the photos don't do it justice to what you see up there.

The public bathrooms were incredible - glass and metal with views right across the Hobart valley too. Worth mentioning the unmentionable..

As one does on holidays it is always time to locate the next meal.... Lunch?? Off to Sandy Bay and wound our way to the beach front, a cafe was found, another ordinary coffee and light lunch and walk along the coast afterwards. Came home and dropped off the car, had a cuppa and another longer walk was needed.

This time Bert and I wandered up to Battery Point where the houses are renovated old cottages and huge sandstone manor houses from 1850's to 1920's Art Deco.. Wonderful mix of properties.

Dinner tonight is in the hotel - not sure what it will be like but will let you know in a blog soon.

Some pictures below for your enjoyment!!!!

Thanks Hobart it has been great!

"Joyce hotel rating" for the Fountainside Hotel, Hobart is 11/10. Loads of NZ toiletries, clean, tidy, nice towels, large rooms with good linen and a mini bar that is not overpriced and parking is free!! We are 2 blocks from town central, 3 blocks from the waterfront and 2 blocks from the supermarket.. Ideal.
