Paris to Annecy
Day 7 of the trip
Taxi to the hire car company in Paris, got a Ford Cmax with a glass roof. Bob drove, I navigated out of Paris, Sunday morning at 8am so the traffic was light. Off the motorway at Joigny for lunch at a lovely place by the river. Onwards to Sens, Chablis, Nitry and Avalon.
Stayed at the Hotel Avalon Varbun - nice comfortable rooms. Dinner was the first time we had to read a French only menu, it took an age using the translation book working it out.
Day 8
Need to make Annecy tonight, our cabin booking awaits. We travelled via Doussey for lunch at the top of a lovely road passing through rolling hills. Arrived late, tired so quick snack and off to bed.
Day 9
Annecy Market Day
Our first trip to town, it was market day. French food markets are brilliant fun, the displays are beautiful, friendly and great fun. We bought our dinner and cheese etc, bargained in French with a huge amount of charades. Lite a candle in the church here for mum.
After lunch at home, Bert and I caught the Lac Blue ferry around the lake back to Annecy to explore some more, wandered around and took the boat home - doing the full lap of the Lake. There are some big, beautiful chateau's and castles around the Lake.
Day 10, 11, 12, 13
Annecy area
We went to Switzerland for lunch and came home around Lake Geneva to Annecy, played in the snow in the shadow of Monte Blanc.
Bob has a game of golf, so we headed off to town again - no markets this time though. Wandered through the back streets - up and down the cobbled streets was great fun. Had lunch in town, bought some chocolate from an interesting little shop. Home by boat - very pretty way to travel.
On the mountains opposite the cabins is a hang gliders take off area. Bob, Bert and I went for a drive up there. Views are massive, all over the Lake and surrounds.
Sundays are shut in France, very little happening. Bert and I drove through the mountains opposite side to the take off zone. Towns like Seynod, Gruffy, Alleves, La Chapelle-Saint Maurice, Le Curet, Villard and back home. Great twisty roads.
